THE AVSIM FPS THREAD: A USEFUL ARGUMENT, NOT A BENCHMARK TABLE

Contents

On 5 March, Cats Eyes Cunningham described low-thirties performance and airport stutters despite a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, RTX 4070 Ti and 32 GB RAM. Bobsk8 had largely given up after several changes. JYW described smooth flying even though the number was below the PMDG comparison; spearmint_flyer answered, "No issues whatsoever." This disagreement is part of the evidence, not something to edit out. [13, 5 March 2024; opening post; Bobsk8, JYW and spearmint_flyer]

Other replies discussed DX11, DX12, frame generation, traffic and demanding airports. Putting their figures into one chart would suggest more comparability than the thread offers. Frame-generated output, native simulation frames and subjective smoothness are related but different. The discussion catalogues experiences and potential test conditions rather than ranking the participants' computers. [13, 5 March 2024; Bnash00, Claudius_, JYW and Nuno Pinto]

The retrospective conclusion is limited but substantial: performance remained divisive after an update some owners found much smoother. It was neither universally fixed nor universally unusable. The hardware chapter uses that lesson to favour repeatable diagnosis. Utilities, render options and tuning ideas mentioned in a historical thread do not automatically become instructions for V3. [27, January 2024 comparison debate; context for continuing disagreement]
