Government support became the subject of long-running United States-European Union disputes. The WTO record contains findings alongside the parties' evidence and arguments; these must be distinguished. The disputes concerned financing and its trade effects, rather than aircraft airworthiness. [210]
In June 2021, the United States and European Union announced a cooperative framework and a five-year suspension of the related tariffs. The agreement included principles concerning financing on market terms and research support. That is the historical milestone recorded here. A five-year announcement should not be silently converted into an assertion that the trade relationship is permanently settled: any account of the position after that period requires fresh evidence.
