V3 NAVIGATION DATABASES: DOWNLOAD, VALIDATE, ACTIVATE

Contents

Fenix V3 moves database maintenance into the running aircraft workflow. ACTIVE supplies navigation; STANDBY holds the replacement, displayed as SECOND NAV DATA BASE on the MCDU. The distinction is independent of ACTIVE and SEC flight plans. Selecting a spare route does not change the navigation cycle, and activating a spare navigation database is not a routine way to undo a route edit. [107, Choose a navdata mode; Update through Navigraph; Activate STANDBY database]

1. Choose the update policy. Disabled leaves manual CHECK available. Hot Standby downloads an eligible replacement for later deliberate activation. Automatic can download and activate when the prescribed conditions are met. Manual Import uses a compatible local file. Select the policy in EFB Settings with an understanding of whether the next automatic action stops at storage or can proceed to activation. 2. Authorise the source. For the Navigraph workflow, connect the account through the EFB with an active subscription. On DATA/A/C STATUS use CHECK when a manual check is intended. Wait for download and validation to finish before interpreting the spare slot. A request is not a completed database, and a busy validation state is not an invitation to start another maintenance action. [107, Choose a navdata mode; Update through Navigraph; Activate STANDBY database]

3. Inspect the candidate. Read its identity and effective dates. A forthcoming cycle may be stored before it becomes effective; that does not make early activation appropriate or available. Compare the candidate with the cycle needed for the flight and with the active data already present. If the desired cycle is already active, there is no programming benefit in swapping simply to demonstrate the button. [107, Choose a navdata mode; Update through Navigraph; Activate STANDBY database]

4. Activate at a valid preparation boundary. The documented conditions require the aircraft on the ground with the FMS in preflight or completed-flight state, no check/download/validation running and the candidate's effective start reached. Activation swaps the slots and resets the FMS. Perform it before flight programming, or deliberately accept that the existing flight must be established again afterwards. [107, Choose a navdata mode; Update through Navigraph; Activate STANDBY database]

5. Verify the new starting point. Return to A/C STATUS and read ACTIVE, then rebuild or reload the intended flight and review it against current information. Treat reset and database change as material effects, not incidental side effects. The current S4 workflow supersedes older Navigraph Hub recipes. A historic forum post or tutorial cannot move those activation conditions to a different page or turn a cycle swap into a harmless CLR operation.
