THE NEO PROGRAMME AND THE MEANING OF CEO
The A320neo programme was launched on 1 December 2010. Its new engine choices were the Pratt and Whitney PW1100G-JM and CFM LEAP-1A, rather than the ceo generation's CFM56 and V2500 families. The first A320neo delivery occurred on 20 January 2016. Joint EASA and FAA certification of the CFM-powered version followed on 31 May 2016: the two engine options had separate certification milestones. The name ceo distinguishes the current-engine-option generation from neo. It does not mean every ceo retains the earliest A320 engines, wingtip fences or avionics. A later ceo with Sharklets remains a ceo. History, model suffix, engine identification and equipment state must be read together rather than inferred from a single exterior feature. The Fenix product register determines what is available in this edition. An announced or developing neo remains a development item until the vendor documents release and configuration. The historical explanation does not imply that a ceo selection can reproduce LEAP or geared-turbofan operation. [38, Product status; checked26 October 2026]
