AIRWAY CONSTRUCTION AND AN ENROUTE ROUTE REPLACEMENT

Contents

The historical keyboard sequence is SOBRA Y180 BITBU Y181 DEMUL DCT DENUT L608 LOGAN. It comes from May 2020 and is not a current clearance. Use it to understand airway grammar, then use a current OFP/database for a real sector. VIA names the connecting airway; TO identifies the exit on that airway. The system expands the segment between the entry fix and that exit. [66, PDF pp. 115-117,325-327,331-334,635] [102, PDF p. 1]

1. Establish the entry fix. Open the appropriate lateral revision and AIRWAYS at the known start of the intended segment. Read that start before typing the first airway. Enter Y180 as VIA and BITBU as TO for the historical exercise, then inspect the expanded section. A correct airway name entered from the wrong fix can fail or build the wrong connection. [66, PDF pp. 115-117,325-327,331-334,635] [102, PDF p. 1]

2. Continue one segment at a time. The next historical pair is Y181 to DEMUL. A direct continuation to DENUT is a waypoint operation, not an airway named DCT. Then use L608 to LOGAN. Read each accepted exit before adding the next segment. This makes a mismatch local and understandable instead of burying it in several later airway entries. [66, PDF pp. 115-117,325-327,331-334,635] [102, PDF p. 1]

3. Resolve AWY/WPT MISMATCH at its boundary. Check whether the entry fix belongs to the airway and whether the chosen exit belongs to it in the active cycle. Confirm spelling and any ambiguity selection. An old route may genuinely be incompatible with current data. Obtain the current intended routing; repeatedly deleting or substituting fixes until the screen accepts something is not route validation. [66, PDF pp. 115-117,325-327,331-334,635] [102, PDF p. 1]

4. Replace a long segment deliberately. Identify the point where the new clearance diverges and where it rejoins. Use AIRWAYS/NEXT WPT or appropriate lateral revision functions to create that replacement, then inspect for repeated fixes, unintended retained segments and discontinuities. Rejoining at an existing identifier can trigger stringing behaviour, so review the resulting sequence rather than assuming all intervening fixes survived or were removed as intended. [66, PDF pp. 115-117,325-327,331-334,635] [102, PDF p. 1]

5. Audit before and after insertion. Compare the proposed path with the cleared segment and inspect the new downstream distances and vertical/fuel predictions. Then insert and verify the active FROM/TO and subsequent route. A shorter airway sequence may move T/D and deceleration requirements; complete the change as both a lateral revision and a review of the predictions that depend on it.
