DEBRIEF THE RESULT AND CHOOSE THE NEXT EXERCISE

Contents

After parking, choose one observation worth carrying into the next flight. Record the aircraft state, what you selected, what you expected and what actually happened. A mode transition, late descent, changed runway or awkward taxi turn can all become a useful practice objective. Include the context that made the result possible: level, speed, configuration, clearance and relevant modes. A brief precise note is more useful than a long verdict on whether the entire flight felt good. Keep the successful observations too. Recognising what improved helps establish which preparation or change deserves to remain in the next exercise.

Repeat the sector with a current plan and one deliberate change in the practice. Try a planned go-around, a revised runway, a different approach method or another family member after reviewing the relevant preparation. Familiar surroundings leave attention for the feature being learned. Compare the expected indications with what happened, then decide whether another attempt would answer a useful question. Keeping the change small makes the result easier to interpret. There is no need to replace the whole exercise whenever one part needs work; a focused repetition can give that part the time it did not receive during the first busy attempt.

The aim is a flight whose ordinary changes we can explain and whose surprises we can investigate. A good result includes choosing to stop an unstable approach, correcting preparation before moving, or pausing the simulator to understand an unfamiliar state. Continue while the question remains useful and complete the aircraft's shutdown properly at the end. Frankfurt and Heathrow now provide a familiar route on which to practise the next piece. What began as a large collection of panels gradually becomes a sequence of connected jobs, each with a reason and a result we know how to check.
