ICE PROTECTION AND THE PERFORMANCE CONFIGURATION
Engine and wing anti-ice use pneumatic heat, while windows and probes use electrical heating. The separate controls reflect different protected areas and supply arrangements. Check the state required by the actual conditions and verify the associated indications; selecting one protection does not establish the state of all the others. [37, PDF p. 2]
Pneumatic anti-ice selections belong in the aircraft's configuration and performance picture. Before departure, reconcile the actual selections with the calculation and conditions. In flight, continue to monitor the selected state and the relevant indications as conditions and phases change. [37, PDF pp. 3–4] [34, PDF pp. 8–9]
Airborne ice protection and removal of ground contamination are separate operational tasks. A wing anti-ice selection does not replace a ground deicing plan. A cold-weather exercise should include the complete preparation, coordination and timing for that operation, rather than adding a switch selection to an otherwise unchanged sector.
